Webquests and instructional design: Building Excellence!

A “WebQuest,” is an inquiry-based, on-line learning activity. Students work in groups, dividing assignments among each other, so that everyone has an assigned role and fully participates. The purpose of this type of learning activity is to encourage “transformative” learning outcomes, which are achieved through reading, analysis, and synthesis of Web-based information.

Instructional Design is the practice of maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency and appeal of instruction and other learning experiences. The process consists broadly of determining the current state and needs of the learner, defining the end goal of instruction, and creating some “intervention” to assist in the transition. My group is building a webquest pertaining to First Nations, Metis and Inuit Education in the Saskatchewan Middle Years Curriculum.  We are incorporating the Circle of Courage as our foundation.

According to First Nation elders, the treaty was expected to be in place “…as long as the sun shines, the grass grows and the river flows…”

We will post our webquest in the next few days…
